Answer to Grace's Remediation Question

1.) In the second reading the author writes, "The desire for immediacy is apparent in the increasing popularity of the digital composting of film and in Hollywood's interest in replacing stunt men and eventually even actors with computer animations." Do you think that computer animations will slowly deteriorate jobs in the film-making industry?

I feel that there will always be a demand for actors because there will always be a group of people that would rather watch the real thing than something animated. As new film industries such as Pixar are creating more animated movies, and creating less work for actors there are still more movies that involve real life people. Even with the action pack movies that have the special effects, the different audiences still have a demand for the different genres of movies. So in a way, yes, computer animations will slowly deteriorate the jobs in the film industry but not as fast as it has with factory based jobs or how the internet has taken over the newspaper industry.
People have different level of interests and also have different experiences when they watch a movie. The film industry keeps coming up with different ways of entertaining people and movies have come a long way from being black and white without any sound. As our economy tends to worsen, the last thing we need is to put more people out of jobs but that’s just my opinion.

Remediation Questions

After doing the readings, many questions ran through my mind...
1. The author talks about the immediacy with the technology today and how it leads to hypermediacy, but what would have happened to our world if there wasn't this immediacy?

2. He talked about how photography took away from the realism of the painting and how it "removed the artist as an agent who stood between the viewer and the reality of the image." Has this happened with other technology where it is still the same but completly different as well?

3. Why is our society so fascinated by the different media and mediation that is in diverse forms technology, such as the television and the world wide web, digital imaging etc?

Remediation Assignment

In our world, everything changes, whether it is for the best for our society or not, people have to find some way to adapt to these changes. The creation of new technology is suppose to make our lives easier. For example, people can now read the news on the internet at their leisure just in case they missed it on television or didn't have the chance to go buy an actual newspaper. We're now able to record television shows with the creation of dvr or tivo instead of using a vcr. All these new creations are here to help us go about our daily lives.

One thing that I feel that has been remediated is the ipod or any other mp3 player. This portable music device has come a long way. Back in the day people would carry a boombox with them if they wanted to listen to music. Then the creation of the cassette player came along so people could walk or run with a headset and listen to their music. After that it was the cd player. This device stayed around for awhile because it was a lot easier to skip to the song you wanted to hear next instead of waiting a long time for the cassette to get to the song.

In 2001, Apple created the ipod. Everyone had to have it because you were able to put all your songs on it and it was very small so you could use it anywhere. As years have progressed, the ipod has come up with different versions where you can watch videos on it, have the screen be in color or the outer part of it be a different color or have it be smaller than anything you have ever seen. Other companies have also tried to follow Apple and create other mp3 players for people to use but Apple keeps coming up with new ideas for the ipod. In the past year, they created the Ipod touch allowing people to have an mp3 player that had a touch screen as well as having many applications added to the device where you can do more than just listen to music. The remediation of the ipod has come along way and has made it a lot easier for people to listen to the music they want to listen to when they want and whereever they want.

My Bio

My name is Teri and I'm from Palatine, IL which is 5 min away from the best place on earth...Woodfield! I'm a senior and finally ready to graduate... I don't really know what I'm going to do after I graduate though. I plan to go to law school after I take a year off. In that year I will either move to California or just to Chicago with my best friend ever Danielle.

There isn't really anything too exciting about me. My friends either call me TO for my initials or LT for little Teri since I'm only 4'11". When I'm back at home I usually just hang out with all my friends and go shopping alot. I pretty much will buy anything I see whether it is on Ebay, online shopping or just being at the mall for all hours of the day. This has contributed to massive amount of debt that I have but having three jobs helps me somewhat pay for it.

Right now I bartend at Buffalo Wild Wings, serve at the piano bar 88 Broadway and I am also a bank teller at Busey. My friends and family think I'm crazy for having so many jobs as well as going to school and partying at night but I love to keep busy. The new thing thing that I am currently doing is training for a half marathon that will be here at U of I. If you want you can sign up here. I'm pretty excited about it because it will be the hardest thing that I have ever done but it will feel great to cross the finish line and you also get a pretty sweet zip-up...so that's awesome in itself!

I'm a very friendly person, however at times I can be kinda bitchy but everyone can be like that. I love meeting new people and I think that is why I have so many jobs because even in highschool I would always have 2-3 jobs as well. I guess you can say I'm very well rounded and pretty much am up for trying new things. This summer I just started to rock climb and this winter I also learned to snowboard.

Other than working, I love going to concerts and listening to music. I pretty much love everything. Some of my favorite people or bands is Britney, Justin, Lil Wayne, Dave Matthews Band, Umphrey's McGee, Sound Tribe Sector 9, Phish, Moe, Taylor Swift, Girl Talk and many more. I just went to Girl Talk the other night and it was pretty much one of the best nights of my life. Last year I went to Summer Camp which is a 3day music festival with so many different bands and I plan on going again this year. If you want to go, you can buy tickets here. Believe me you won't regret this experience.

When I'm not doing anything, and I'm finally just relaxing on my couch, I sit on facebook and basically can be on it all night just creeping on people. Or I'm catching up on the latest celeb gossip on perez. I also watch a lot of tv. I love all the reality shows on mtv or vh1 and then pretty much watch everything on the CW like Gossip Girl, 90210, One Tree Hill. I'm pretty much obsessed and can't miss an episode even if I'm watching dvr at 2 in the morning when I get off of work.

I guess that is pretty much it about myself...if you need to know anything just ask!
